The production and sale of gasoline blended with bioethanol is expanding globally from the perspectives of addressing climate change and ensuring energy security. With the introduction of E10 gasoline in Japan in mind, I visited the United States—the world's largest producer of bioethanol—to observe the situation firsthand, including the cultivation of corn used as a feedstock for ethanol, ethanol production plants, distribution terminal and the retail conditions at gas stations; ; this report outlines my findings.
