Lignin is a renewable biomass resource rich in aromatic structures and is expected to serve as a promising feedstock for producing value-added chemicals. However, selective hydrodeoxygenation of lignin-derived compounds remains challenging because of their complex structures and various C–O bonds. In this study, zeolite-based catalysts are developed for the hydrodeoxygenation of lignin-derived compounds toward biorefinery applications. The catalytic performance and possible reaction pathways are investigated to clarify the role of zeolite catalysts in promoting C–O bond cleavage and deoxygenation while retaining valuable aromatic products.
