Keywords:

carbon dioxide (CO2),hydrogen (H2),dimethyl ether (DME)

Cu-based alumina catalysts prepared by the sol-gel method (alkoxide method) can directly synthesize DME with high activity and selectivity in CO hydrogenation. Similarly, DME is produced with high activity in CO2 hydrogenation. However, a large amount of CO is also formed simultaneously. Therefore, by creating two layers of Cu-based alumina catalysts in the same reaction tube, the selectivity of direct DME synthesis from CO2 can be increased. If the lower layer of the catalyst layer is composed of zeolite, Co-based catalysts, and so on, direct hydrocarbon synthesis from CO2 becomes possible.
