Zeolites are important materials for petrochemical catalysis, adsorption, and separation; however, how disordered silicate precursors develop into ordered framework structures during the early stages of crystallization remains insufficiently understood. In this talk, I will present our direct observation of the ordering process of O–Si–O–Si torsion angles before the appearance of well-defined crystalline structures in X-ray diffraction, using O 1s X-ray emission spectroscopy combined with theoretical calculations.
