Under certain conditions—such as hydrocarbon composition of the gas reservoir and production rate—the near-wellbore pressure may fall below the dew point, leading to liquid dropout and a decline in productivity. If this issue is anticipated at the development planning stage, an effective countermeasure is to design the well to maintain as high a bottomhole pressure as possible during production; however, this approach does not address problems that arise in existing wells.
In this study, we investigated a method to mitigate productivity decline by periodically injecting gas to alter the fluid properties around the wellbore. The results confirm that this approach can alleviate productivity loss regardless of well trajectory or completion design.
