Hydroformylation of alkenes using carbon monoxide and hydrogen is a direct and 100% atom-efficient reaction that converts inexpensive alkenes into value-added aldehydes. In this reaction, separation of linear and branch aldehydes is often difficult, and thus improving regioselectivity is crucial. In this study, Xantphos-type ligands designed based on density functional theory calculations were synthesized, and their catalytic performances in the hydroformylation of alkenes were evaluated.
