Cardiovascular diseases are the most common cause of death in the developed countries. Extracellular vesicles (EV) are nano-sized lipid bilayered vesicles loaded with nucleic acids that contribute to intercellular signaling by being secreted by cells and accepted by target cells. In particular, there are still many unknowns on the mechanism by which miRNA carried by EV control RNA expression in target cells. In addition, to achieve therapeutic application of miRNA-RNA networks by EV, it is necessary to deepen our understanding of the RNA regulatory mechanisms in both EV-secreting and -targeting cells. In this symposium, we focus on intercellular interactions through EV-RNA networks in cardiovascular diseases, introduce the latest research results aiming at elucidating mechanisms and therapeutic applications, and discuss the development of new molecularly targeted therapies.
