Boden's typology of creativity has been widely referenced in artificial intelligence research. Of the three types, transformational creativity—which transforms the conceptual space itself—is considered the most significant; yet what exactly is transformed and why this matters have not been sufficiently explored. I address these questions by drawing on the notion of the societal landscape proposed by Hirai. The societal landscape refers to the norms and customs of a society that function as a space of possible actions, both enabling and constraining activities including artistic production. Reconsidering Boden's typology through this lens, exploratory creativity corresponds to activity within the existing landscape, and combinational creativity, while sometimes deviating from established frameworks, is evaluated within them and unlikely to transform the landscape. Drawing further on Floridi's distinction between archetype and ectype, I argue that current generative AI models reproduce styles and techniques of past works (authentic) without possessing a new creative vision (unoriginal); their outputs remain ectypes. Through co-creation between such AI and humans with creative intent, works that function as new archetypes become possible. The key to this lies in transformational creativity, which provides the vision needed to transform the societal landscape itself.
