Following the disclosure of misconduct concerning engine certification at our company, various cases of misconduct and scandals have been revealed across numerous Japanese companies, thereby becoming a social concern. Outdated corporate culture is the main cause of such, therefore, many Japanese companies have established the corporate philosophies that would represent the purpose of their existence and are striving to instill them throughout their organizations to transform their corporate cultures anew. However, they are facing difficulties since such corporate philosophies must accompany continuous permeation activities when they are clueless of what the effective measures are; also, that they must persevere before those effects become apparent. In this study the mechanisms underlying the permeation of corporate philosophy were investigated by employing Direct LiNGAM, a causal discovery method in machine learning. The analysis of our company-wide pulse survey data revealed that it is crucial for the management to show exemplary conduct so that the employees can practice corporate philosophy. Furthermore, we found that what paves the way for the permeation of corporate philosophy is management’s acknowledgment and appreciation toward each and every employee.
