Utilizing the unique electric field distribution of a radial beam, modes that are difficult to couple with homogeneously linearly polarized light, such as dark modes of plasmon resonance, have been excited and detected. However, it has been difficult to separate the response of longitudinal and transverse electric fields by conventional methods that detect the intensity of light. In this study, we could selectively extract the optical response of the dark mode of a single gold rod as a change in the longitudinal electric field component of a broadband terahertz radial beam by direct observation of the longitudinal electric field by terahertz time-domain spectroscopy.
