We propose a new solar cell structure incorporating a double tunnel junction near the hetero-interface in the two-step photon up-conversion solar cell (TPU-SC). The double tunnel junction provides electrons to the hetero-interface through two inter-band tunnels, and also acts as a potential barrier to suppress the diffusion of up-converted electrons. In this study, we demonstrate the effect of TPU on the increase in open-circuit voltage by comparing the measured and calculated values.
