Carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRPs) are composite materials made of resins and carbon fibers. Recently, electron spin resonance (ESR) study has been performed for degraded CFRPs. Based on this experimental situation, we have investigated covalent-bond dissociation in an epoxy resin by means of molecular simulations toward elucidating microscopically the degradation mechanism of CFRP.
