We introduce computer-generated holography (CGH) for double-sided image reproduction using a single hologram. The technique mainly aims to enable omnidirectional displays for virtual/augmented reality. The optical setup involves a spatial light modulator (SLM) and a half mirror to generate left and right-side images. The hologram displayed on the SLM is synthesized by solving an inverse problem and using a gradient descent algorithm. The experimental demonstration was performed with a transmissive SLM as an amplitude modulation configuration. Numerical and optical results are presented, showing successful double-sided image reproduction. Our display method is promising for future virtual/augmented reality applications, including omnidirectional displays and digital signage.
