Natural iodine isotope system can be potentially used as a dating tool and new index for the long-term cosmic ray intensity variation. Recent improvement of experimental methods and accumulation of knowledge of anthropogenic iodine 129 make possible to investigate natural iodine isotope system. We will summarize natural iodine 129 data (deep sea water and ground water) so far obtained and discuss future prospect.
