Thermal plasma pyrolysis of natural gas is feasible for hydrogen production because thermal plasma has many advantages. Therefore, thermal plasma method can produce large amounts of hydrogen at high production rate without direct CO2 emissions. Furthermore, thermal plasmas enable to co-produce hydrogen with useful carbon materials such as carbon black. Highly efficient decomposition with control of characteristics of carbon materials can be achieved by selecting an appropriate plasma system based on understanding the reaction mechanism.
