Carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) are used in a variety of applications, taking advantage of the electrical conductivity, heat resistance, low coefficient of thermal expansion, reactivity, self-lubricating properties, and high thermal conductivity of carbon fiber. It is important to develop recycling technology for expensive and high-value-added carbon fibers, the processes are classified into collection, sorting/cutting, CF recovery, orientation adjustment, intermediate substrates, molding, and products. As a generalization, collection, sorting and cutting can be divided into upstream, CF recovery to intermediate base materials can be divided into midstream, and molding to products can be divided into downstream. This lecture describes the issues and future prospects of each recycling process.
