In this talk, I will discuss the potential of intense light-matter interactions in novel two-dimensional materials, monolayer transition-metal dichalcogenides, with special emphasis on energy state control and extreme nonlinear optics. When combined with mid-infrared excitations, the two-dimensional semiconductors exhibit enourmous energy shifts as well as non-perturbative high-harmonic generation. The results demonstrate exciting opportunities of harnessing quantum dynamics beyond perturbation in two-dimensional materials.
