Gold nanoparticle is currently studied as carriers for radioactive iodine and astatine for radiotherapy purposes. To study the limits of adsorption, we performed a study on the coverage of iodine and astatine adsorptions on different gold surfaces. We look at a flat (111) surface and (211) surface and compare the performance of both as well as looking at the effect that a more crowded surface would have on the adsorbates. We found that the gold surfaces are able to adsorb a substantial amount of radionuclides up to 0.75 monolayers. The results serve to highlight the attractiveness of gold as a carrier for radiotherapy.
