The use of theoretical computational methods have brought about important findings in the design for catalysts and energy generation cells among others. Here, we turn to the medical field in the use of gold nanoparticles as carriers of radionuclides for radiotherapy treatments. We performed adsorption calculations and found that a stepped surface provides a stronger adsorption than a flat surface. Based on this result, we believe a more stepped gold nanoparticle can be used in order to provide a stronger adsorption characteristic for the radionuclides.
