For the selective synthesis of carbon nanotubes as next-generation transistor channels, growth rates, which depend on their geometric and electronic structures, hold a key. According to the kinetic model we recently proposed, the kinetic constant of the adsorption reaction of carbon source gas on catalysts has a dominant influence on the growth rates. From this perspective, we investigated the differences in dissociative adsorption reactions on catalyst nanoparticles connected to metallic or semiconducting nanotubes by synthesis using isotopic ethanol.
