We are developing an optical energy harvesting system for ultra-small IoT edge devices and biosensors. In this system, electrical power from solar cells is charged into a capacitor, and then a CMOS control circuit intermittently drives the load according to the voltage of the capacitor. We are designing and evaluating the circuit with a new two-capacitor topology to improve the performance of the CMOS control circuit. We report on the operation of the circuit designed by TSMC 0.18µm standard CMOS process.
