Optically pumped magnetometers are expected to have applications in fields such as medicine due to its ability to measure weak biomagnetic fields. There are few research examples using optically pumped magnetometers with helium metastable atoms, so it is important to reveal their characteristics. In this study, we measured the density of helium metastable atoms generated during discharge in a helium glass cell based on the absorption characteristics. Additionally, in the presentation, we plan to show our investigation into the sensitivity to magnetic fields.
