It is known that when metal particles on SiO2 substrates are annealed at high temperatures, nanopores are formed. However, the mechanism of the nanopore formation has yet to be fully understood. In this study, we have proposed a simple phenomenological model of nanopore formation and have performed numerical simulations of the nanopore formation processes. Our simulation results well reproduce previously reported experimental results, indicating the validity of our model.
