Thiol-terminated poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) was synthesized by Grignard metathesis polymerization and subsequent thiol-ene reaction with alkylene dithiols. We prepared gold nanoparticles modified with the thiol-terminated P3HT (P3HT-AuNP). P3HT/P3HT-AuNP mixed monolayer was prepared by the co-spread method with liquid crystal molecules on water. UV-visible absorption spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy revealed the formation of the P3HT-AuNP monolayer network. The hybrid multilayer networks were prepared by sequential horizontal deposition of P3HT-AuNP monolayer networks and evaporation of the liquid crystal molecules. We evaluated nonlinear characteristics of the hybrid multilayer networks with different layer numbers and particle sizes of Au NPs by current–voltage measurements. As a result, nonlinear electrical characteristics due to hopping percolation were obtained.
