HSAB concept is found to be a useful baseline to understand the stability mechanism of doped states of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) via complementary characterizations of thermal stability of electrical properties of protonic-acid-doped p-type CNTs, elemental analysis by EDS, and chemical hardness of adsorbed anions by quantum calculations. Further, ion exchange of adsorbed anions is demonstrated as an effective methodology of stabilizing the doped CNTs.
