Implantable biomedical devices have the potential to revolutionize healthcare by enabling new medical research and therapy methods. Optical power and data transfer offer energy- and area-efficient solutions for these devices. We are developing an optical data reception scheme integrated with the OPT. However, data recovery from the receiver analog front-end (AFE) remains challenging. Conventional mixed-signal circuits like the phase-locked loop (PLL) are unsuitable for implantable devices due to power constraints. To address this, we propose a fully digital data recovery circuit as an alternative for power-constrained biomedical devices. This article outlines the design and preliminary results of the circuit.
