We study two photon absorption (TPA) induced surface relief formation in azopolymers by illumination of femtosecond near-infrared optical vortex. We discover, for the first time, the optical vortex creates an unexpected flower-shaped surface relief with 4~8 petals along the azimuthal direction. This surface relief clears the modulation instability associated with the third-order nonlinear optical effect in azopolymers.
