In order to develop a simple method for PD integration, we investigated adhesive mounting of PD chips on silicon photonics chips. When a commercially available 4-channel surface-input PD chip was glued onto a standard design grating coupler (radiative efficiency ~60%) with the light-receiving surface facing up, a coupling efficiency of at least 20% or more (simulated value ~41%) was obtained, and all 4 channels showed similar results. Wavelength characteristics were obtained.
