The deformation and degradation of light element materials under continuous tensile load was visualized dynamically using the phase imaging method with an X-ray Talbot interferometer. Using white synchrotron radiation and the continuous phase-stepping technique, movies of absorption images, differential phase images, and scattering images were obtained with a temporal resolution of 0.16 s, monitoring stress-strain curves. Structural changes such as crack formation and necking inside the material could be dynamically observed. This method is expected as a new tool for evaluating mechanical properties of materials.
