We have developed an autonomous walking four-legged robot utilizing an amoeba-inspired optimization system. In order to implement the walking behavior development ability where the robot autonomously improves the walking gait to achieve high walking efficiency, we experimentally investigated the accurate estimation of the travel distance from the acceleration using reservoir computing (RC). We successfully demonstrated the drastic improvement of the estimation accuracy of the travel distance using RC compared to the simple estimation by double time integral of acceleration.
