Chiral carbon nanotubes have right- and left-handed helical degrees of freedom, and the optical activity has been observed and theoretically calculated by circularly polarized light dichroism experiments. It has been considered difficult to measure these right- and left-handed helical degrees by Raman spectroscopy, but the authors have clarified experimentally and theoretically that the helical degree information can be obtained in the phase part of the complex Raman tensor using circularly polarized Raman spectroscopy. In addition, using only right- and left-handed oriented nanotube samples, the authors successfully observed second harmonic generation and circular dichroism due to the three-dimensional structure of the oriented samples.
