In recent years, development of electric vehicles such as BEVs, HEVs, PHEVs, and FCEVs has been progressing towards achieving carbon neutrality. All of these electric vehicles utilize power semiconductors that can handle high voltage and high-speed current switching, which greatly influences the improvement of electric vehicle efficiency and the miniaturization of power units. This paper presents an overview of the evolution of Si power semiconductors for electric vehicles and introduces the current developments in SiC power semiconductors.
