Topochemical fluorination using fluoropolymers as a fluorine source is attracting attention as a simple method for fluorination of transition metal oxide thin films. We have performed topochemical fluorination of bismuth iron oxide epitaxial thin films with fluoropolymer, which is polyvinylidene fluoride and succeeded to control the crystal structure and fluorine content by changing reaction temperatures. In this study, we investigated the relationship between the fluorine content and the band gap by UV-visible spectroscopy of bismuth iron oxifluoride thin films with different fluorine content.
