In recent years, there have been growing expectations for the use of optical fibers to achieve lightweight and high-speed data transmission in automobiles and industrial robot arms. In optical communications under automotive conditions, air gaps between optical fibers pose a challenge in achieving low-loss optical connections due to shaft misalignment caused by vibration. As a way to solve the problem of soldering between optical fibers, we have studied flexible light-induced self-written (LISW) optical waveguides using gel materials and automated optical soldering [1]. In this study, we report the results of our work on all-solid-state flexible LISW optical soldering in a GI glass optical fiber (GI-GOF) with a core diameter of 50 µm.
