We have started research on graphene growth by CVD using ethanol. Thus far we have shown that graphene can be grown on silver surfaces and that the high vapor pressure of silver inhibits to achieve its high quality. In this study, we examined the effect of hydrogen on graphene growth by using Ar-hydrogen mixture as a carrier gas, suggesting that the hydrogen modified the silver surface and suppressed silver evaporation. This indicates that the addition of hydrogen to the carrier gas is effective in improving the growth of graphene.
