In this study, the temperature dependence of the ordering DySc2N ions encapsulated in C80 fullerenes, which are single molecular magnets, was observed by linearly polarized X-ray absorption spectroscopy. As a result, it was confirmed that the ratio of the peak of the Dy-M5 absorption edge to the M4,5 absorption edge showed increasing at low temperature. In addition, a comparison of the measured results with multiplet calculations based on ligand field theory confirmed that the Dy-N bonds in the DySc2N ions tend to align parallel to the Pt(111) surface at low temperature.
