Recent research has reported that liquid crystal organic semiconductor Ph-BTBT-C10 possess layered crystal structures of ~5.2 nm spacing (2 molecules length) and ~2.6 nm spacing (1 molecule length) reflecting liquid crystal phase. Thermal annealing near liquid crystal transition temperature caused structural change between the two. However, the process dynamics has not been revealed yet. In this study, we report real-time observation of the structural change in a Ph-BTBT-C10 thin film by using temperature-dependent AFM near the crystal/liquid crystal transition temperature.
