Conventional OLED devices emit light by charge recombination in the light-emitting layer, which requires the application of a voltage equivalent to the energy gap of the emitting material. We have discovered the exciplex upconversion OLED (ExUC-OLED) as a strategy to reduce the voltage, which is achieved via triplet-triplet upconversion (TTU), but a detailed analysis of the operating mechanism has not been performed. In this study, the charge injection, transport, and accumulation processes of ExUC-OLEDs were evaluated using displacement current measurement (DCM) in order to elucidate the detailed operating mechanism of ExUC-OLEDs.
