The addition of a third component to the donor and acceptor in organic photovoltaic cells (OPV) improves energy conversion efficiency. However, its mechanism has not been clarified. In this study, we examined the energy levels of a ternary OPV system comprising PM6 mixed with Y6 and BTP-eC9. We used X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) to examine the Cl 2p core level in BTP-eC9 as a function of its concentration. The subtle concentration-dependent spectral difference was extracted by principal component analysis (PCA). The results show that the energy level of BTP-eC9 differs in the mixed film as much as 0.14 eV.
