When unraveling the organic and biological world, the first step is to see. The scanning probe microscope (SPM), invented in the 1980s, provided new observation and analysis methods and made it possible to capture a wide variety of phenomena. I believe that the ability to create a variety of previously unimaginable measurements will be the most important factor in the future development of SPMs.
