We investigated the electrostatic properties of BN nanotubes using the density functional theory. Our calculation demonstrated that the potential difference between the inner and outer vacuum is sensitive to the tube diameter and index. The potential difference decreases with increasing the tube diameter with odd and even dependence regarding the tube indexes. We also demonstrated that the electrostatic potential outside the nanotubes is sensitive to the tube index and inter-wall atomic arrangements.
