Low power consumption and non-volatility, racetrack memory is expected to significantly improve data recording speed. A typical method of writing data to magnetic wire memory is to use a magnetic field generated from an electric current. This method requires complex wiring for current flow. On the other hand, if data can be recorded by irradiating heat from a laser beam, no wiring is required and a simpler configuration can be used. Therefore, we have conducted magnetic domain formation and domain wall drive using a laser.
