We are developing a genetic testing system based on a microfluidic device to test causative organisms of bloodstream infections within 1 hour. In this presentation, we will report on a rapid thermal cycling technology that enables faster DNA amplification in the testing flow. This technology combines plasmonic heating with forced air cooling using compressed air to achieve both rapid heating and cooling. Evaluation of the prototype system showed that the average ramp rate was 20.43°C/sec for heating and 20.38°C/sec for cooling, achieving the target rate of more than 15°C/sec.
