We constructed a feedback system to observe the intrinsic beating activity of cardiac cells in real-time and attempted to generate pacemaker-like stimuli in an aggregation of these cells by phase-controlling the timing of stimulation. In this experiment, we prepared cell aggregates from 5-day-old chicken embryos and formed them into a linear shape. The phase differences between the stimulus and the intrinsic beat were crucial for controlling the interbeat interval and shifting the pacemaker cells.
