The catalytic properties of supported metal catalysts, in which metal nanoparticles are supported on oxides, are known to be significantly affected by the interaction between the support and the nanoparticles (metal-support interaction). Typical interactions include charge transfer between the nanoparticles and the support, and formation of defects on the support around the nanoparticles. In this study, thin-film-based Pt/TiO2 model catalysts were prepared and their atomic and electronic structures were investigated by scanning transmission atomic microscopy, electron energy loss spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.
