We previously found that coating a sulfonated polyimide (SPI) thin film on the cathode of a Li-ion battery as an artificial cathode-electrolyte interface resulted in an improved capacity retention rate during discharge. To elucidate the reason for this improvement, we investigated the molecular assembly structure and Li-ion conductivity of the SPI thin films with the addition of organic solvents used in Li-ion batteries. It was discovered that adding an ethylene carbonate-dimethyl carbonate mixed solvent to the SPI thin films resulted in the formation of a highly organized structure, as well as improved Li-ion conductivity.
