The fill factor FF of inorganic semiconductor solar cells can be well described by an empirical equation based on equivalent circuit parameters and solar cell element parameters. However, for organic photovoltaics, the FF cannot be estimated by this empirical equation. This is mainly because the empirical equation assumes that the equivalent circuit parameters do not change in the dark and under illumination conditions, but this assumption is not true for organic photovoltaics. I will discuss the origin of the difference between them.
