For the vertically aligned twisted nematic mode, there has been no established method to evaluate the azimuthal anchoring energy using an ellipsometer. Therefore, phase differences and amplitude ratio angles were first calculated by simulation when the azimuthal anchoring energy was changed. The calculation results suggest that the azimuthal anchoring energy can be determined.
