Liquid crystal displays (LCDs) with 4d chiral pitch and vertical alignment, known as a twisted-VA (TVA), have been proposed for use in reflective and transflective displays. In this report, it is numerically clarified that the LC orientation becomes a quasi-TVA in a twisted hybrid mode by applying weak polar anchoring to the planar substrate. The electro-optical property was calculated and the drive voltage could be reduced by about 60%.
