[22p-12K-4]Microscopic Origin of Large Magnetostriction in Galfenol Studied by Operando X-ray Magnetic Spectroscopies

Galfenol (Fe3Ga) has been developed as rear-metal-free large magnetostriction (MS) materials. The microscopic origin of large MS has not been clarified explicitly. In this study, we found that the modulation of orbital magnetic moment is essential by employing x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) during applying reversible strain. In this presentation, we discuss the origin of large magnetostriction by not only XMCD but also structural changes detected by extended x-ray absorption fine structure analysis.
